High performance fast tele zoom delivering leading-edge image quality and featuring Tamron VC image stabilization and USD autofocus for speedy and accurate AF response.
Higher function for great photos
The apex of telephoto lenses in a compact package. “SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC USD”(*1) with VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization delivers leading-edge image quality in a body that’s smallest(*2) in its class. Equipped with Tamron’s proprietary USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) motor, this lens boasts a speedy autofocus so that you can capture that one decisive moment. For sports, journalism, fashion, weddings, or even landscapes, the 70-200mm will exceed your expectations every time.
Technology and innovation all packed into one small place
The most compact*2 lens body in its class, and it’s equipped with Tamron’s USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) motor and VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization to reduce camera shake so you can achieve the previously unobtainable.
Delivering leading-edge image quality
With one special XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) glass(*3) and four LD (Low Dispersion) elements, this lens offers a new level of correction for chromatic aberrations. The new advanced optical design delivers higher performance with excellent contrast and resolution.
USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive)
The quiet high-torque USD motor ensures a speedy and accurate autofocus response.
Add 4 stops for shake-free shooting: VC (Vibration Compensation)
This high-speed F/2.8 telephoto zoom lens is equipped with the VC mechanism that delivers sharp and vivid viewfinder images. Even in low-light situations, VC reduces camera shake to deliver sharp images.
Rounded diaphragm and high-speed deliver spectacular blur effects
Using a rounded diaphragm(*4), this lens achieves spectacular blur effects. By distinctively blurring backgrounds and foregrounds this high-speed lens creates images that bring your subject into focus, thus to life.
Full-time manual focus
Fine focus adjustments using manual focus can be made during autofocus shooting, without the need to change focus mode.
Moisture-resistant construction helps protect from the elements
Moisture-resistant construction helps prevent moisture from penetrating the lens.

Super Performance for Discriminating Shooters
While other image-stabilization systems can only correct the effects of camera shake in horizontal or vertical planes, Tamron’s VC system uses a tri-axial configuration that employs three pairs of driving coils and low-friction ball bearings placed around the shake-compensating optical group to produce, in effect, a free-floating shake compensator. This simple, elegant system is able to compensate for camera shake that occurs in diagonal direction as well as for up-and-down and side-to-side movements. Furthermore, due to its simple, low-friction design it is more responsive and durable than previous systems. The Tamron 28-300mm VC and 18-270mm VC lenses incorporate a highly sensitive and accurate gyro sensor for detecting even the slightest hand shake, and that, combined with a 32-bit RISC CPU and Tamron’s proprietary Algorithms and actuator, provides unequalled real-world performance. The bottom line: Tamron VC provides up to a 4-stop advantage in shooting sharp handheld pictures at slower shutter speeds along with a smooth, stable viewfinder image that is the envy of other shake-control systems. You can expect to see the VC feature built into more Tamron lenses in the future.
Ultrasonic Silent Drive
By effectively combining these two ultrasonic vibrations, it is possible to convert the energy from the vibrations that produced simple motion into energy known as ‘deflective traveling waves’, which then moves around the circumference (rotation direction) of the ring.
With the USD, the friction between these deflective traveling waves created on the metallic surface of the stator and the surface of the rotor produce force, causing the rotor to rotate. The focusing ring lens, which is linked to the rotor, is thus moved, creating a fast and smooth auto-focus drive.
Low Dispersion (LD) Glass for Greater Lens Sharpness
|Extra Low Dispersion
Lens elements are made from specialized high-grade glass and have even more effective dispersive properties than LD elements. The result is a lens that delivers sharp contrast and better resolution.
Using a rounded diaphragm, this lens achieves spectacular blur effects. By distinctively blurring backgrounds and foregrounds this high-speed lens creates images that bring your subject into focus, thus to life.

The Risk of Purchasing Gray Market Products:
In looking for our products, you may find that products not supplied through our regular channel are sold in your market. Such products are generally called “gray-market products” and may involve quality problems.
Interchangeable lenses are precision optical and mechanical products. Therefore, if handling during transportation or storage is not adequate, defects or malfunctions may occur. As for our products supplied through our regular distribution channel, meticulous care is taken in transportation and storage in order to ensure quality protection. However, in the case of gray-market products, it is more likely that they are handled inadequately during transportation or storage; are exposed to undesirable conditions such as high temperatures, vibration, shock, high humidity, dust, dirt and so on; or that they have been mixed up with used products since they are not under our strict control. Therefore, we are unable to warrant the quality of gray-market products.
Always look for Tamron products that are supplied through our authorized distribution channel. By purchasing Tamron products from an authorized dealer, you can ensure the quality of the product, which will be also covered by Tamron USA's Six-Year Limited Warranty, the only warranty accepted by Tamron USA, Inc. in the USA as of October 1, 2007. To find an authorized Tamron dealer near you, please click here.
If you have any question as to the authenticity of a dealer or product, please do not hesitate to contact our Service Department at 1-800-827-8880, Option 1, to discuss your impending purchase.
